Designation of Yokkaichi as a Port for Foreign Trade, and the Expansion of Trade
The renovated Yokkaichi Port boasted many modern facilities, such as breakwaters to reduce wave intensity, and numerous commodities were shipped through Yokkaichi to be transported to different parts of Japan.
In 1899, Yokkaichi Port was officially declared open to foreign trade.
In 1907, it was designated the anchorage for ships en route to the US, thus continuing to grow in importance as a commercial seaport.
