Installation of Flue Gas Desulfurization Facility 2611

The development of fluegas desulfurization technologies picked up momentum in the late 1960s. The process can be carried out using both wet and dry systems. In 1967, trial runs of a dry system were conducted in Yokkaichi.Full-scale introduction of a desulfurizationfacility, however, did not take place until the late 1970s when a high-efficiency wet system was commercialized. This system played a vital role in helping companies cope with restrictions on theTotal Pollutant Load Control, thus contributing to a reduction in sulfur oxides (SOx) emissions.
