Under the Basic Law for Environmental Pollution Control drafted in 1967, the first Yokkaichi Environmental Pollution Prevention Plan was drawn up for Yokkaichi City, Kusucho, Asahicho and Kawagoecho.
Based on this plan, companies in these areas implemented initiatives to prevent air and water pollution, eliminate sound, vibration and foul odors at the source, and appropriately treat industrial waste.
