YOKKAICHI MUNICIPAL MUSEUM

Notice Board Area 3460

Important information such as decrees passed by the feudal government were posted on a wooden notice board with a roof like structure to prevent it from getting wet in the rain. Each village had one such notice board that was erected in the busiest area of the village. Villagers were constantly reminded that they must abide by any instructions on this board. In Yokkaichi-juku, the notice board was located at the intersection of the Tokaido main road and the road leading to the seaport. This intersection was referred to as Fuda no Tsuji ("Notice Board Intersection").
