Shops not in Operation 3470

Inns and other lodging establishments usually faced the main street and closed their shutters at night. On the other hand, shops that had gone out of business always had their lattice doors closed to indicate they were not in operation. Currently, many old buildings on the Tokaido main road have their lattice doors closed, conjuring images of lodging establishments in the Edo Period. Both types of buildings have been recreated here.
